An Unusual Presentation of a Locked Knee

An eighty-seven-year-old woman presented to an emergency department with pain in the right knee following a fall at home in which she believed that she landed directly on the knee. Physical examination revealed that the knee was locked at 60° of flexion. There was no palpable discontinuity of the extensor mechanism. The skin over the knee was intact and there were no signs of neurological or vascular compromise. Anteroposterior (Fig. 1) and lateral (Fig. 2) radiographs of the knee joint were made.
