IMMEDIATE SPINE FELLOWSHIP OPENING FLORIDA ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE SPINE FELLOWSHIP AUGUST 2003 TO JULY 2004 One immediate position is available for subspecialty training in spine surgery at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. The program is based at Tampa General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. The fellow will work under the supervision of three orthopaedic spine surgeons, Dr. John M. Small, Dr. Antonio E. Castellvi and Dr. Marc A. Weinstein. The fellowship offers a comprehensive experience in spine surgery including: adult cervical, thoracic, and lumbar degenerative disease and deformity; pediatric deformity, including adolescent scoliosis; complex cervical, thoracic, and lumbar reconstruction; cervical, thoracic, and lumbar trauma, including spinal cord injury; minimally invasive techniques, including endoscopic assisted procedures, microendoscopic diskectomy, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and IDET. The fellowship is affiliated with the University of South Florida. Additional training is available with an invasive spine specialist who performs diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections along with provocative testing, such as discography. Weekly fellow spine conferences are held with selected topics being presented by the fellow, one of the spine surgeons, a neurologist, or a neuroradiologist. Clinical and basic science research opportunities are available with several projects currently ongoing. Funding is available for the fellow to attend National or International spine meetings. Hand & Microvascular Fellowship 2003/2004 Immediate Opening The University of South Florida, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking qualified candidates for their ACGME accredited Fellowship in Hand Surgery. Under the direction of Robert Belsole, M.D., this fellowship offers a wealth of clinical and research material in hand and upper extremity surgery. Based at Tampa General Hospital, the only Level One Trauma Center on the West Coast of Florida, the fellowship affords the applicant training in hand and finger re-plantation, microvascular free tissue transfer, and traumatic injuries to the entire upper extremity. As the leading tertiary referral facility in the region, this fellowship offers a wealth of complex, reconstructive hand surgery as well. In addition to these aspects of the program, the direct affiliation with the Tampa Shriners Hospital offers the fellow excellent training in congenital hand and upper extremity surgery, including Ilizarov techniques. Residents who have completed education in an ACGME accredited general surgery; orthopaedic surgery or plastic surgery programs are eligible.
