Since sciatic pain was relieved promptly and permanently by subperiosteal stripping of the gluteus maximus muscle and ligaments from the posterosuperior spine of the ilium in the two cases here reported, the method is worthy of consideration. Two cases, of course, prove nothing, but they are provocative of thought. There appears to be scientific basis for the method, although this is not well understood. It is understood, of course, that the author does not deny the existence of an intra-articular sacro-iliac lesion, to which this method does not apply.
