Abstract

A new clinical entity has been presented,—namely, bursitis beneath the tibial collateral ligament of the knee.

Ten cases have been reported, four of which have been definitely proved by operative excision of the enlarged bursa. From one patient, bursal fluid was removed by aspiration; later this patient was operated upon.

Several of the cases might have been diagnosed by some as fibrositis or fasciitis, but, to us, these terms indicate signs other than those listed here.

Novocain injection into the painful area has been used repeatedly, with completely beneficial results in some cases, especially in those with no palpable enlargement.
