1. Four cases of osteochondromatosis of the hip joint have been presented.
2. Surgical technique has included dislocation of the femoral head, complete removal of loose bodies, and subtotal excision of the involved synovial membrane.
3. Follow-up examination of the patients revealed no evidence of avascular necrosis of the femoral head or of osteo-arthritis of the hip joint. A possible solitary recurrent osteochondromatous body was noticed on the roentgenogram of the hip joint of one patient.
4. All patients are full ambulatory and have few, if any, symptoms referable to the affected hip joint.
