Abstract

Patients with irreversible functionless, asensory hands due to brachial plexus palsy, severe Volkmann's ischemic contracture, or severe trauma with resultant loss of prehension and sensation and no indication for surgical rehabilitation or partial amputation, can be treated successfully by amputation of the distal part of the extremity and prosthetic restoration.
