Abstract

A case of multiple ruptures of major tendons caused by minor trauma is described. The patient had chronic acidosis due to chronic lead nephropathy.

Tendon showed many fibers which stained with elastic-tissue stains. These fibers were not present in tendon from a subject with chronic lead intoxication without acidosis nor in a subject with neither lead poisoning nor renal disease.

The tendon weakness is therefore attributed to a connective-tissue elastosis associated with chronic acidosis.
