The treatment of patients with intra-articular sepsis following open treatment of hip fractures is discussed.
The results using mold arthroplasty in the treatment of this complication in nine cases are reported.
One woman, ninety-two years old, died. The other eight were walking at followup one to eleven years after mold arthroplasty. One patient was still using two crutches, one year after operation; four used one cane; and three used no support except for long walks. All were free of drainage and free of significant pain.
