Abstract

After unilateral hind-limb venous ligation (resection and ligation of the iliac vein) in dogs, the saphenous venous pressure in that limb increased transiently. There also was an increase in tibial periosteal appositional bone growth and a concomitant decrease in endosteal appositional bone growth in the limb. It is suggested that even transient increases in pressure within vessels in and about bone may stimulate increased bone remodeling.
