A two-staged operation is recommended, with medial release, resection of the abductor hallucis, section of the posterior tibial tendon, and lengthening of the Achilles tendon as the first stage. The second stage, triple arthrodesis, if necessary, follows further correction of the foot by plaster casts. Supplemental operations, for example derotation osteotomy of the tibia and metatarsal osteotomy, also were done. Forty-four cases were so treated. Cosmetic results were excellent in all but one, and functional results also were good.
