Abstract

1. Fractures of the neck of the femur will, as a general rule, unite providing there has been a good anatomic reduction.

2. True impactions of fractures of the femoral neck occur rather infrequently.

3. Improper reductions, and interposition of the hip joint capsule, are the principal causes of non-union.

4. The surgical treatment of ununited fractures of the femoral neck should preserve if possible the anatomic structures.
