The Presidential Address traditionally affords an opportunity
to step back and reflect on where the Orthopaedic Research Society
(ORS) as an organization has been and where it is going. As you
can surmise from our two business meetings, this past year has had
its share of challenges and transitions. Fortunately, robust organizations
with a strong sense of purpose always seem to deal effectively with issues
of the moment. Keeping a collective sense of purpose in a changing
environment, however, takes active nurture. I'd like to share some
thoughts on the ways that orthopaedic research has changed, and
must continue to change, and the importance of transforming the
interactions between the orthopaedic clinical and scientific communities,
both inside and outside the ORS.
