The iliopsoas bursa is a normal anatomical structure that lies deep to the iliopsoas tendon in the region of the hip joint ¹ . Inflammation and distension of the bursa is most commonly associated with rheumatoid arthritis ^2,3 , but it is also seen in association with osteoarthrosis ² , pigmented villonodular synovitis ⁴ , synovial chondromatosis ⁵ , infection ^6,7 , pseudogout ⁸ , and metastatic bone disease ⁹ . In rare cases, iliopsoas bursitis develops after total hip arthroplasty ^7,10-12 . We report a rare case of iliopsoas bursitis that presented as a buttock mass that had completely penetrated the pelvic wall many years after hip arthrodesis.
