Leiomyomas are benign smooth-muscle tumors that most commonly arise in the
uterus, the gastrointestinal tract, and the skin. They constitute 70% to 80%
of all benign mesenchymal tumors, with uterine leiomyomas being the most
common smooth-muscle tumor in
women1. Leiomyomas
are infrequently seen in the
extremities2-6
and are rarely seen in bone. To the best of our knowledge, the only reported
intraosseous leiomyomas occurred in the proximal aspect of the
femur7, in the
tibia4,8,
and in the
mandible9,10.
We are not aware of any previous reports of intraosseous leiomyomas in the
upper extremity. We describe the case of a patient with a painful intraosseous
leiomyoma involving the distal aspect of the ulna. Our patient was informed
that data concerning the case would be submitted for publication.
