President and Mrs. Spengler, Dr. and Mrs. Swiontkowski, distinguished international presidents, members, and guests:It is my honor and great pleasure to address you today. The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) is a society of leaders. Its mission is "to identify, develop, engage and recognize leadership to further the art and science of orthopaedics." We hope to be the organization that catalyzes the orthopaedic community to greatness through inspired leadership. A position of leadership entitles one to certain rights, privileges, obligations, and responsibilities. It is the area of responsibilities that I would like to address today.
