Question: In patients presenting with shoulder pain, how accurate
are history-taking and the use of clinical physical-examination tests in
diagnosing shoulder instability and labral tears?Data sources: Studies were identified through a search on MEDLINE
(1966 to 2003), EMBASE Excerpta Medica (1980 to 2001), and CINAHL (1982 to
2001), using the terms "shoulder," "glenohumeral,"
"scapula," "clavicula," "acromion,"
"rotator cuff," "supraspinatus,"
"infraspinatus," "serratus anterior," and
"subscapularis" combined with diagnostic terms. The references of
retrieved studies were also reviewed.
