Question: In patients with cubital tunnel syndrome, what is the
effectiveness of simple decompression compared with decompression plus
anterior subcutaneous transposition of the ulnar nerve?Design: Randomized (unclear allocation concealment), blinded
(outcome assessors), controlled trial with 9-month follow-up.Setting: A university hospital in Homburg, Germany.Patients: 66 patients (mean age, 52 y; 58% men) who had clinical and
electrophysiological evidence of ulnar neuropathy as well as persistent pain
and progressive motor and sensory deficits despite conservative treatment.
Exclusion criteria were severe cervical spine and shoulder disease, previous
trauma to the elbow causing deformity or distortion of the cubital tunnel, or
recurrent cubital tunnel syndrome after previous surgery. Follow-up was
98%.
