Congenital nonunion of the olecranon, which
Habbe1 called
"patella cubiti," is a very rare anatomical variation. A few
authors described this abnormality in very young
patients2,3
and reported that surgical treatment can result in healing of the nonunion.
However, at the time of long-term follow-up, both of the patients in these
reports had a flexion contracture of the operatively treated elbows. Our
experience with one adult patient showed that this abnormality can be fully
compatible with a well-functioning elbow without surgical treatment. This
patient gave permission for data concerning his case to be submitted for
publication.
